For a friend who was admirably trying to be the very best they could, but all the while ignoring Jesus.
a person may do many
things
to reach the stars
above
they'll read and
grow and care for those
who've no one else
to love
and I believe that
some just may
fly higher than the
rest
if only they will
set themselves
to do their very
best
but human wings can
only take
a person just so
high
and everyone whose
tried before
will sadly
testify
that stars are those
that live above
while mortals dwell
beneath
and in between's a
great divide
that striving cannot
breach
but if you want to
touch a star
I know another
way
and if you have the
ears to hear
I hope I might
relay
a marvellous story
that I heard
a little while
ago
a story that is
true, in fact
as history will
show
there was a star
which also wished
with people to
commune
for as they suffered
'neath his gaze
his heart was not
immune
but since they were
just flesh and blood
and he a cosmic
sun
he knew they'd have
no fellowship
'less something
great was done
and now I tremble to
describe
the thing that
happened next
for such a tale
you'll never find
in any human
text
the star forsook his
distant home
and clothed himself
in skin
and came and lived
among us all
and loved us as his
kin
but we despised his
coming here
and took of him
offence
as if it was with
ill intent
he'd crossed the
cosmic fence
and so we struck a
fatal blow
to put the star to
death
we pierced him
through and hung him up
until he had no
breath
but this is where
the story turns
with wonderful
surprise
for as he died his
body made
a bridge that
spanned the skies
and now that bridge
is travelled well
by those who cannot
fly
but make their way
to heaven's throne
upon the star that
died
now one more thing I
hope to ask
of you who've read
my rhyme
especially if you've
heard the voice
of God between the
lines
that you will try to
guess the name
that's given to this
star
and having guessed
will ask of him
to take you in his heart
